Margins
Financial spread betting is a margined product, which means that
only a percentage of the total value of your trade – the margin –
is required as a deposit in your account in order to have a
position open.
Margined products offer two advantages over
full value trading:
1. Your capital is not tied up in the same way
that it would be if you purchased the same value of underlying
asset directly.
2. Margin allows you to leverage your profit
(and loss) potential by increasing your exposure to an underlying
asset with the same initial investment. This leverage can result in
losses quickly exceeding an initial outlay, so ensure you fully
understand the risks involved.
At Finspreads we believe in offering margin
rates that allow you to maximize the benefits of leverage without
compromising your investment potential. The margin requirement for
a position is determined by the volatility of the underlying
market, and will increase as volatility increases. Full details of
our margin requirements for each market can be found with the
on-line Market Information icons on the Trading Platform.
